I am looking to upgrade my home server from an old dell inspiron 530 dual core 2.66 ghz core 2 duo to something that can handle windows server 2012 essentials better. With the dell everything is lags and it is not very fast. I am looking to use an AMD A6-5400K Trinity 3.6GHz processor as the new processor. I would like for the server to stream media throughout the house as well as over the internet to me while i am away from home in college as well as have a central place for all of my data to backup. Will this processor be able to handle what I am trying to do? If not what are some low cost processors that will get the job done?

Thanks in advance,

I believe that an A6 at 3.6GHz would do what you need it to. Also, make sure it's wired to the router/modem and has a good enought networking card if you want it to be faster.

P.S. I entirely wholeheartedly recommend Plex Media Server.
