So I want to buy a kit of 2*8 Gb of ram, so I can leave the other two slots for future upgrades. The ram kit is rated at : 1600mhz cl10 at 1.5v. I read if I add one more kit of ram this will run only at 1333hmz and wont boot at 1600mhz, is this true ? I know that I should have in a dual channel 2 identical sticks of ram, what about the other two slots ? is it ok to have totally different brand, and what is the rule of mixing different kits ?
Thank you.

ANY time you mix DRAM even 2 of the exact same sets it can be problematic, which is why DRAM is sold in such diverse sets of number of sticks and total GBs....Probability of having problems goes up bot with total GBs and higher freqs...Best bet is always to buy a single package containing the full amount you want, that way they are tested to all work together (which is why prices are higher, the testing) and each packaged set is programmed for XMP by the set, i.e. 2 sticks will take different timings than 4 sticks take
