Random lag spikes while in use

I recently built a gaming computer. it only takes about 10 seconds to get to the windows login screen, but after that it takes about 2 mins to load my desktop/programs. it also randomly gives me (stopped responding) on windows even if its just my internet browser. after a about 10-20 seconds its back to running smoothly.. as far as i know everything is up to date with the latest drivers and updates. heres my build.

More about random lag spikes
  1. any input would be nice. i can post any info you guys need.
  2. Sounds like something is hanging up during start up, would check all the items in start up, would suggest a program like WinPatrol that lets you see start up items and dis-able and then renable as needed....DISable things like the program snippets from Adobe and other programs - another thing is check you mobo site and ensure you have all the latest drivers (check and upgrade BIOS also if needed - which means if there's a newer BIOS), same with GPU drivers - XFire still has a lot of problems
  3. alright ill get winpatrol and double check all my drivers to and try to fix it. ill have the results soon.
  4. We'll be around, C U ;)
  5. i turned off quite a bit of programs in my startup and it booted much quicker. so id suppose thats fixed. my bios version in the UEFI setup says its Asrock 990fx extreme4 2.0.
should i go here and get the download on top?

im actually thinking my gpu drivers are messed up though. when i added my 2nd 7950 my games seem to run about the same performance. like my other thread states the 2nd gpu is always at 99% load. ive always just installed the new drivers over the old ones. in CCC it says my Driver packaging version is 13.25.18-131029a-164333E-ATI. and catalyst version in 13.11. should i just go into device manager uninstall and reinstall from disc?
Heres my other thread, if your able to help on that i would greatly appreciate it.
  6. Yep, and Yep, I'd upgrade the BIOS and on the GPU, think I'd go ahead and uninstall the drivers and reinstall the latest verison, then enable and set XFire up

alright. I'll go ahead and download that bios update on top. I'll go do that to my gpu and post an update on my performance.IIll be back in a few hours :)
  8. Should be around ;)
  9. So... its been a few days. and it is still slow. i mean im playing WoW on ultra and im getting 60fps max.. (dropping to 30fps) idk if i messed up from the get go. but i mean should my computer be this slow?
i would think my 8350 and 2x 7950 should be able to handle pretty much anything i throw at it. at least wow. should i just reinstall windows and start over? im thinking i did something wrong since this is my first build ever
  10. im not even on 1080p. im running 1360x768 (which is recommended).. everything just seems off.

Can't hurt to try, when you do, make sure to update the mobo drivers from the latest available on the mobo website, and after those and Win, load the latest GPU drivers, then try a game and see how things go before loading any other apps, then after each app you load boot and try a game to see if the last app loaded has any negative effects
  12. before i reinstall windows. should i go here and download the AMD all in 1? not sure if i got that one before.
  13. honestly. when downloading drivers idk what to get and what not to. so im sure i messed up somewhere
  14. Think I'd try a game first before loading any of their utility programs - stick with drivers, many of the utility programs offered by the mobo makers are rather generic and not actually tuned to a specific mobo or BIOS, those apps can actually screw things up
  15. well i remember when i first built this. i installed every single one of those utilities. : /
  16. Was just offering a suggestion to try and pinpoint where the problems were originating from
  17. i know :) and its greatly appreciated. i have windows 8 OEM. that can be reinstalled to the same computer right? thought i read somewhere that its a one time deal.
  18. Should be fine with the OEM, just don't put it on two rigs
  19. oook. ill have to do that tomorrow. what do you mean by "update the mobo drivers from the latest available on the mobo website". sorry im a noob when it comes to this stuff. If you could provide a link that would help out so i dont get the wrong one.
  20. When you got your mobo - it came with a Driver and Utility disk, some, many, maybe all may have been out of date by the time you got the mobo, what you do is go to the manufacturer's site, find your mobo and look under support, it will have all the lates drivers and utilities there - for your's go here:

select your OS and it will pop up a list of all the latest and their revision dates, you can download from there
  21. so ill just update to 8.1 after my reinstall and get all the drivers from last month. i will have a repost when im done :)
i sure hope it fixes it and i can unleash this beast.
  22. Keep me updated ;)
  23. Alright so its been some time and my startup seems faster. yet. sometimes (not as often though) i freeze up for a few seconds. my gaming FPS is better by like 20-30 frames. Thank you a TON Tradesman1.
  24. No worries, on the freeze ups, no guarantee, but might raise DRAM voltage + 0.05 and see if that helps - it's perfectly safe
  25. i also bought another 8 gb of ram so now im at 16gb. for streaming and what not. ill try raising the DRAM voltage.
  26. Sounds like a plan
  27. well its still freezing up. i might get an ssd and put my OS on their and see if its just my HDD.
  28. If you bought another 8GB and added to what you have - may want to raise the CPU/NB voltage to about 1.25-1.3
