My Kingston SSD says 450MB/s read/write but on CrystalDiskMark it only pulls 228 and 171

Is it defective? I'm only using it as a game storage device it is connected via SATA into the fourth SATA slot on my mobo.

Solution
You probably have it connected to a SATA 3Gbps port. That's about where they max out using the slower SATA controllers. Plug it into a 6Gbps port (if available) and Crystal DiskMark will show the increased speed.

I'm not to sure how to check if my mobo has 6Gbps :p All the manual says is Serial ATA. It's a DX58SO, do you know?

So if I only used this one SSD it will receive the full 500MB/s read/write off that device?

Correct. The read and write speeds will be what ever the drive is actually capable of, rather than what the interface allows as is the case right now on the slower port.

Do you by any chance know the specific name of this module? Controller card?
