Can I use a different power adapter?

Hey All,
Hope this is an easy question to answer...
I have a newer i7 Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102 (I put in a new HDD and loaded Win7) whose charger has a straight connector to the laptop. I have an older i3 Gateway NV57H13u laptop charger with an angled connection. The plug fits into the laptop and has the right polarity, but I'm afraid to fry something. The Toshiba has a 19v 3.95A output and the Gateway a 19v 3.42A output. I use the Toshiba as my main DJ laptop, my Gateway is a backup and the adapter is constantly connected for up to six hours. Can I use the Gateway adapter for the Toshiba, or do I have to use the Toshiba?
As always, thanks for any and all advice.

19V is 19V so it will be able to power it, the question becomes will it be able to keep it charging while you are using it. The Toshiba charge is a 75W charger, the gateway is a 65W charger so its going to charge slower and probably get hotter than it used to but it should be able to do the job when charging the laptop while off, it may not be able to make progress while you are using it though depending on the power draw of the laptop, like trying to charge a tablet with a phone charger, sometimes it just slows the discharge of the battery rather than charging.

Generally though you would want to use a charger rated for a HIGHER current so that you won't damage the charger in the long run and know it will charge the laptop as fast as...

Generally though you would want to use a charger rated for a HIGHER current so that you won't damage the charger in the long run and know it will charge the laptop as fast as the laptop wants. It is a constant voltage system not constant current so the laptop pulls however much current it wants that the charger can supply.
