After upgrading my video card and PSU from a generic PSU and palit gt 9500 to aerocool strikeX 600w modular and palit gtx 650ti my computer starts slowing down.

I tried installing windows 7 & 8 and installing the drivers of the video card, at first it is running smoothly but after i tried rebooting my system it is very slow to the point that dota2 is running at 1-10fps

my computer specs:
amd phenom ii x6 1090t
asrock 880gm-le
4gb g.skill ripjaw 1600
500gb hdd

what can i do to fix this problem? thanks

overheating might be the issue here, what case do you have? how many fans? can you monitor your temps idle and on load?

i am using hwmonitor to check my temperature...it my cpu stays at an average of 41 and my gpu at 68 during normal use(watching movies, browsing the net) even watching movies using my browser is lagging

i am using i think a generic case, just 1 fan from the side but i do not close the side panel so air could flow freely

Edit: after using palit thundermaster app i could see that my gpu core usage is 99% is it normal?

i just have updated my bios and it didn't make any difference.

neglect the bad performance, we just need to know the temps of the GPU under load.

Have you tried going to the nVidia website and download the latest drivers??? That could be the most simple solution.....Maybe you should try to uninstall all of the graphical drivers. A program that helped me doing this is guru3d. After uninstalling you need to install the newest drivers.
Good luck.

i have downloaded the latest drivers in the nvidia website which is the 331.65 and reinstalled my drivers.

after reinstalling my computer was smooth and performs well having 50-60fps max settings in dota2 but after reboot it came back to being slow and i'm back to lower than 20fps...

the solution i am doing for now is reinstalling my drivers and not rebooting my system...i am still searching for a permanent fix

now that i am using my pc without rebooting(computer working smoothly) i noticed the temperature of my cpu and gpu decreased...

my cpu at idle is around 33Celsius and my gpu is around 40Celsius

while playing dota2 my cpu is at 36Celsius and my gpu is at 46Celsius...

what could cause my computer to work slower and at higher temperature after rebooting?

from what am seeing, the issue is not physical, since it runs normally after you install the OS. i think it is a software issue.
just to be sure, go to BIOS and restore everything to the default settings.

ok lest try to use different parts.
1- use your old card
2- use an old HHD if you have one.

scan for malware, you might have got a bitcoin miner that activates at the reboot when the drivers are installed...

edit your old card doesnt support opencl but the new one does so the miner wasnt active when you had the old card installed.

i have disabled the integrated graphics in the bios and device manager but it didn't help.

i dont think i have that malware because i have just freshly installed windows 7 and also tried a freshly installed windows 8.

@Anas what do i do after putting the old card and another HDD?

i think i have fixed my problem. what i did was create a partition and installed windows 7 on it and after that, i searched the gtx 650ti driver from my windows8 partition then it now works perfectly with my windows 7 but my computer is still slow when using my windows 8....do you think this will work fine for a long time? or my card is really damaged?

so it was a software problem after all.
since the card is now working perfectly on W7, then the card is ok and has no issues. honestly i didnn't understand the part about the partition thing, can you explain that to me?

November 13, 2013 3:31:12 AM

i made a partition in my hard drive then i installed windows 7 on it....then i opened my pc using windows 7 then i searched the driver in my windows 8...then it worked perfectly...now what i tried in my windows 8 is search my gtx 650ti driver from a different folder rather than the preset folder where the nvidia drivers are usually installed and now it is working fine....

as long as i search the driver of my gtx 650ti from another folder rather than the preset C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation
it will work fine....do you think it really is a software problem?

yes it is. it is merely a matter of the default folder to which the OS goes to look for the drivers to identify the card installed on the PSI slot.
honestly i do not know how to avoid the inconveniences of locating the drivers every time after restarting the PC while keeping both W7 and W8 on the same hard. it seems that there is one default location to locate the drivers regardless of which OS is running and on which partition that specific OS is stored.
i suggest keeping one OS only, unless you put them both there for a reason.

yep i will delete my windows 7 i just tried this because what i conclude with my problem is that the drivers are having error while loading in preset installation folders....i have fixed the problem with putting & using my videocard drivers at C:\Windows.old.001\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation

there is no hassle because i don't have to locate my drivers everytime my computer restarts.it is now fixed for good(i think and hoping)
