I have had this device working under Windows 8 x64, but now I have Windows 8.1 x64 (clean installed) and it simply doesn't see the device.

Under Windows 8 (as far as I can remember) it showed an unknown device, which I selected the device software from the list. However, in Windows 8.1 it simply doesn't show a device. There is no unknown device, or any device which could be the receiver. When I unplug it, and put it in another USB-port, it simply doesn't notice something is happening. No "USB-unplug" sound, and when plugged back in, not giving any feedback.

What can I do to still get this thing working?

Hi. I'm having the exact same problem. It used to run just fine in Windows 8 (it would appear as unknown device but I could get it to work by force-installing it as an XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver). Now, it no longer seems to be detected by my PC running Windows 8.1 x64. Works just fine with my Windows 7 Laptop though.

I suspect it's a driver issue/software related glitch.

Tried again lately.
Somehow worked again..
I plugged it in, detected an unknown device.
I was able to manually install drivers, and picked the right driver from the list in Microsoft's driver list.
Software was installed first.

I am so done with it all, I actually expected that buying a genuine Microsoft product would be supported in future Windows releases. So naive of me. I am no noob, but using the xbox 360 wireless controller on an all USB 3.0 Intel NUC running Windows 8.1/64 just can't be done. It fails to start (code 10) on all USB ports. Tried to trick it using a powered USB 2.0 hub but it just does not work. Manual driver selection, just doesn't work. I wouldn't be surprised if some Chinese clone would actually still work. I was really happy using it with my old hardware. Too bad. Will not consider purchasing Microsoft hardware anymore. I just hope my Curve keyboard will be supported in Windows 10... I can understand their motives... but that makes me a very unsatisfied customer.
