i have a framerate about 60 fps but every 5 seconds it drops to ~30 fps

what should i do? ive already cleaned my case etc and my graphics card isnt bad or anything (note, my english isnt great)

By the way the framerate doesnt stay 30 but after 1 second it goes back to 60 fps and then after 5 seconds it stays 30 fps for 1 second and goes back... etc..

Have you tried running your game with vertical sync OFF. Also have your graphic settings in game to auto to avoid lag or stutter. And by the way please give us your PC Spec.

I have no idea how to find out my pc specs, any tips? haha sorry. If i play as example bf4 with low settings without vsync i have around 120 fps but the framerate still drops down about 40-50 frames, so it doesnt matter if v-sync is of or on...

You have a good CPU plenty ram so the drops can be network lag or just the GPU not powerful enough for the game. Test by lowering in game settings and see if the drops get smaller. If no effect it is something else than the GPU.
Got enough info out of that apart from the PSU.

it isnt the network, because it does it in multiplayer as well as in singleplayer. On low settings it does it as well, the drop is just as high.

If i play bf4 on ultra i still have 56 fps.. so i dont think its my graphics card either. Ofcourse with the stuttering...

But that's the thing, it does it on other games as well? TF2 BF3 Bioshock infinite, AC3 etc.. and I normally play on medium settings.

Well since it is not network lag and everything else looks fine I suspect it has to do with the GPU.

My guess there might be something wrong with the Power management on the card or it is simply not powerful enough at all. Presuming that CPU temps are always fine.

oh you mean catalyst, jeah i've tried everything on that, no difference. I just swapped my 7800 series with a 6700 series and now there is no stuttering (but ofc less fps) , so im going to bring it back to the manufacturer

I have the exact same problem.

Almost every new game goes from 60, to 40, straight back to 60....back to 40....back to 60.. basically its 2 or 3 seconds of 60, then half a second or 1 second of 40. Constantly repeating, never stops.

It was not doing this when I did not have all windows updates installed (and some others, however basically it had directX updates, VC++ 2008 & 2010, and Nvidia drivers 314 and I think dotnetfx installed only....no windows updates had installed yet). Like I said, when it was like this it had no problems. Dropped from 60 to maybe 50 depending on how much was on screen but that was normal fps drops nice and smooth, not spike drops. (GTX275 is somewhat old now but its not the problem)

The problems started pretty much right after I applied most of the windows updates the next day (it was a fresh install of windows bar installs I mentioned above) I have had issues with some updates in the past and Im suspicious that its the same update causing the same damn problems again.......thing Is I dont remember the KB number of it.........

"I had a similar problem recently.

60fps for 2 seconds, drops instantly to 40 for a second, then back to 60....

I thought it was one of the windows updates causing problems again, however after slowing uninstalling everything 1 by 1 and occasianlly 2 by 2 etc :p  I have fixed it.

2 things I changed before it fixed....

Uninstalled Microsoft.net 4 client profile and the Microsoft.net 4 Extended.
Uninstalled the newer 9.13xxxxx nvidia physx drivers

I then restarted the pc and reinstalled just the Microsoft.net 4 client profile and installed an older version of nvidia physx by installing an older driver. (314 version nvidia drivers which come with 9.12 physx drivers....the 314 drivers were already installed when I had 9.13 physx as I rolled back to them during the whole troubleshooting process , however I reinstalled them again anyway also with clean install selected. So the 331.82 drivers should be causing no problem)

The problem now does not happen. Not sure which one caused the problem exactly, the physx 9.13 or .net 4 extended......

Maybe this will help you or others.........maybe not :(  "
