16GB Ram only 7.95GB Available

Hey Guys!

I just upgraded my pc by installing a new gpu and SSD. I decided to install windows to the ssd But after i had done that i looked in Windows and it said 16gb ram (7.95gb usable)

My computer worked fine before this it had 16gb ram have only changed the GPU and added a new ssd Im using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

When i look in the bios it says total Memory 8000mb (not that precise but it was around 8000) but when i looked deeper it said there were to ram sticks both 8000mb each Anybody got any ideas what it could be?

AMD FX 6100
Asus GTX 770 OC
Asus M5A99X EVO MOBO
OCZ Modxtrean Pro 600w PSU
Corsair Vengenance 16GB 1600MHz Two module kit

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit it worked fine Before with the same OS

Do you have Home Basic or Home Premium? If HB, then it only supports max 8 gb while HP supports max 16 gb.

if he has the OEM version it might have deactivated itself... look closely at your screen see if the "unactivated" watermark is visible somewhere... you should lose your ability to put different wallpapers on your desktop too... if its unactivated and it's homepremium you'll only get 8gb i think.

you can also try to clr_cmos
or
you might have knocked one of the ram loose... take the ram out and put it back in.

Nope its definatly activated and its a legal copy of Windows how do i clear my cmos and i checked my ram sticks there both in

Try this:

Click Start
Start button
1. type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
2. In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
3. Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

Also, after upgrading, your BIOS might have reset. Check if there is a memory remapping option in your BIOS. If it is disabled, enable it.

If this all fails, remove one stick of ram and boot. Windows, motherboard should reconfigure themselves. Than shut down, put memory stick you removed back, see if it helps.

Right ive already tried the max mem didnt work and Memory Hole remmaping option is enabled but i will tryand take out the ram

Do you have the ram in the correct slots? It should be either the 1st and 3rd slots or the 2nd and 4th slots.

Yeh i have them in the blue slots which the motherboard tells you to put them in and tommorow i will take the ram out but is there any other solutions i could try

Thats my worry but i look in the resource monitor and it says that 8gb of ram is hardware reserved

Could also be an Os Corruption. You could try reinstalling the OS.

Really? i Just reinstalled the OS before i found oout about the ram

I may try that but it says in the bios only 8gb but if you go into the ram slots it says there is 2 8gb ram sticks in slots 2 and 4

Maybe your mobo doesnt support the Ram. See here-
