Wireless Connection Problem

Wireless connection shows connected, but I can't receive any packets. When I ping the router nothing comes back. I have assigned a static IP and at least I have connectivity now but I can't access the Internet. Status shows connection good.

I should mention it is capable of connecting to the Internet with the wireless networks at work but not my home connection. The connections and security settings for wireless connections are pretty much the same. I have a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router at home.

Solution

Reset the internet setting on the computer to default (DHCP). Does it connect with an ethernet cable OK? Once you connect to the router with the ethernet cable, do a firmware update on it, should be an option in the router menu...

If your laptop has a static address, did you also set the same address in your router address reservation table or static router table for that wireless network?

Also check under your network control panel (manage wireless networks) that you are using the same security type on the laptop and router.

Security levels are the same and I think most likely it has to be the router. We tested this thing on four different wireless networks at work and one at the guy's house who set it up for me and they all allowed connecting to the Internet. My buddy suggested going to a static IP address since it wouldn't connect and at least with that I get connectivity but nothing comes back when I ping the router. I also did as you suggested and put the IP address of the laptop in the router address reservation table and still nothing. Would you be willing to maybe look at the manual and see if I'm missing something? Link follows; http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Consumer_Products/DIR/DIR%20655/Manuels/DIR655B1manual070312v23pdf.pdf
Thank you so much for your help.

After that, try the wireless connection again.
