hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I gathered a lot of usefull information thus far on what specifications I should be looking for in my next PC. I'm already pretty sure what will be the main components. Nonetheless, I'm still unsure how to complete my PC whith a decent power supply, cooler and storage.
I'd be very gratefull for any bit of information from you guys.

By the way, if you think my current choices dont make sense for some reason please feel free to explain why :)

Here are the specifications so far:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-A LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GBSupply

thank you very much

Hi!

My overall budjet is pretty broad: overall, I don't want to spend more than 1800$. My goal are to be able to play bioshock infinite, crusaders 2, starcraft 2. I don't plan on playing any pure FPS games, only RPG's and RTS's. I am willing to pay a few more bucks to be able to play future games in high quality.
I have had really bad experience with coolers before and lost 2 computers to overheat so I'd love to get a piece of advice concerning PC coolers.
Other than playing, I am also going to use my computer for potentially heavy matlab/c++ programs but I guess this isn't much of an issue with today's CPUs.

thanks

Total: $1809.93
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

With that CPU you cooler (I have it as well), and the special fans I picked out for it, you'll never overheat in the history of overheating.

Thank you for your answer.

I have a few questions though:
- Do i really need the I7 cpu? I have heard that it didn't improve the visual quality much
- the assus GTX 780 Ti seems to be a bit overkill. Will I really feel the difference with a cheaper AMD r9 290 or eaven a gtx 770? (looking at your logo I was thinking you might be a little biased in favor of the gtx :))

anyways, thank you for your time

If you have a GPU, your CPU doesn't affect visual quality. The i7 out performs the previous series in many ways, but it's not really my expertise. Don't get the r9, the leaf blower. A 770 Asus DirectCU II is also a good choice, or maybe a standard 780.
