I want to know if this is a good combination for gaming

Alienware Aurora ALX.

Intel® Core™ i7-4820K Processor (4-cores, 10MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.2 GHz w/ Turbo Boost).

4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 690

16384MB (4x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Quad Channel.

And an Asus PB278Q that runs 1440p.

Thanks

for 1440p i'd be considering something with more than 2GB of vram.

That would be a great combo. But build it yourself! It would be so much cheaper!

Would Gtx Titan work? I think that's 6gb Vram.

The Titan is overpriced. The GTX 780 is fine.
Have you considered the AMD 280x 3gb?

Wouldn't the GTX 770 SLI be better than GTX 780?

Yes but more expensive. I would go with the most expensive single card you can afford and you can SLI or crossfire it later.

Would 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 690 work?

no because that's still 2 x 2GB cards, and you can't add the vram like that. 3Gb 780 would be fine. and then get another one later if needed.

martynas, how about getting the gtx 780 ti or waiting for factory cooled gpu version to be released and buy it. It is cheaper by 300$ but its a single card and wont have any issues associated with multi cards setups as stuttering in some games.

Gtx 780 sli is absolutely better than gtx 780 ti, but the question is can you afford the 780s? http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_7... Check this out, the 780s can handle every game at nearly 60 fps at 1440p except crysis 3 (which nothing can handle at 60 fps @ 1440p), its pretty decent for this resolution and can max any game you want to play easily, if you can afford it then go for it.

Money is not a problem, I definitely can afford a GTX 780 SLI.

This is really your choice. I will try to help about monitors, if you want to play FPS as CoD BF3 or 4, you might consider buying the 1080p with 144hz as increased refresh rate increase smoothness of the gameplay which is important if FPS. If you want to play RPG and open world games as skyrim you should consider getting the 1440p as this will make the image look sharper with higher quality and because you dont need higher refresh rate than 60hz in RPGs wont differ that much as it does in FPS. Bear in mind that getting the 1080p monitor might as well make your cards a bit more future proof although it will also make the job difficult for them to maintain that 144 fps, its your choice. About SLI or single card, single card is better that its less noisy produces less heat and consumes less power and can play all games (some games doesnt support sli, although mostly all AAA titles support it now) without waiting for drivers fixing some issues, but in your case i recommend SLI as you seem to be a hardcore gamer (144 hz monitor and 1440p display) and you will need every tiny gpu power available to enjoy your gameplay, hope this helped you to choose your purchase.

Ok thank you, I will get the 1080p monitor because in the future games are going to become very demanding and will need a lot of gpu power for the best quality.
