Hi, I am thinking of upgrading to the amd FX-8350 and NH-D14 and OCing it to about 4.5ghz~4.6ghz to replace my current stock Phenom x6 1035T. I run dual monitors and mainly use my machine to play games. I'm not very knowledgeable in building a pc.

My current setup is:

Mobo: GA-990FXA-UD3
GeForce GTX 460 2win
HAF 912 ATX tower
Cosair TX 750

Will the D14 provide adequate cooling for the 8350 OCed to about 4.6ghz?

Please help.
Thank you.

Well each chip will yield different results that is what the silicon lottery is about. Now the NH-D14 is a boss cooler so I would imagine that you would be able to push your chip to the brink of death but keep in mind that again their is no absolute assurance you'll be able to hit those Overclocks.

Overclocking is a crap shoot, as bigshootr8 said. I have an 8350 and cannot get a stable 4.5 on it. It will overclock that high and the temps don't rise over the limit, but under heavy usage as you might find in some games, it becomes unstable.

The sad truth is, if you want really great performance Intel is the way to go. The 8350 is a great chip and it can give you good game performance, but an Intel chip will always be faster.
