Hi,

I'm looking to make an SSD + HDD combo to boot my OS (Win8) faster and handle (mostly) a huge load of FPS games and some small documents. BUT I'm trying to narrow it down for my budget. The maximum storage I think I'll ever need is:

Samsung 840 Pro 256GB ($210)
2TB Western Digital Caviar Black.($140)

Is there anything excessive? Anything I can remove?

Actually the WD Black 2 TB kind of sucks. It will do 142 MB/s avarage writes where the 7200.14 will do 156 MB/s. Read is 113 mb/s vs 161 mb/s.

So go for the 7200.14, but make sure it is either 1 TB or 3 TB (those have the 1 GB platters).

If I used it mainly for my OS and some executables that I want to load instantly (probably for AAA FPS's), would 128GB be enough?

So either WDB 1TB or 3TB huh? What about Seagate (barracuda)?

But you have to admit, 120/128GB won't be as expensive as 256GB, correct? So you're saying that I can manage with a good build with 120/128GB? If yes, then it'll help me with my budget. Would 840 EVO be sufficient compared to 840 Pro?

The "7200.14" IS a Seagate. Great drives and very fast. I love mine!

:p woops. Anyways, I've heard that Seagate has a lower lifespan or is more noisy in some reviews compared to the WD drive (which is why WD is more popular). Got anything to say or argue?

Approximately how many BF4's can fit (just for general reference)? If not, how many AAA FPS's can fit (i.e Far Cry 3)?

My Seagate drive is VERY quiet. The fan in my PSU makes more noise than my Seagate. Lifespan is always debatable. I've only had mine for 4 months but: so far, so good!

That sounds great, but people start to notice it die after 1 year, which is why I only mentioned WD Drives in this thread. I'm going to need more positive feedback to convince me.

How long did that unfortunate HDD last? I ask because I'm also after reliability.

Most Bang/Buck Combo I can think of.

120 GB Samsung EVO SSD + Seagate 7200.14 1TB HDD

Is this sufficient, or do I need more Space?
