See if you can find a used GTX 690 on ebay. Those will likely be going for 500-600$ now that the 780ti was released, and is likely your biggest bang for the buck.

Will get you far more than 50 FPS at 1080p easily.

Why not a 290X? This will also be around christmas time. and the 290s perfom close to 780 superclocks?????!?!?
