See the edit on the bottom.
I've brought a Asus Maximus VI.
* CPU: 4770K
* RAM: Crosair Vengeance Pro 2x16GB
* No graphics card

First time I boot: "New processor failed (or something" - niiiice start!
Second time: ok

Then randomly the computer just freezes.

When I open the bios it has a ton of oc settings.
The pre-loaded settings (or someting) seem to be:
* Super OC
* Mega OC
* Uber OC
(or some slightly different names, but that's the idea)

I need to worrrrrk!! - Isn't there a "just do your stuff and get my pc working" mode? I.e. "normal" mode?
I'm really guessing there isn't. So: is there anywhere I can find the "stable" configurations for the 4770K?

Many thanks!
David

Whn you first power on a new system, the board will show a "new CPU installed message, press F1 blah blah " message. This is normal.

To load or revert to defaults, you have two options:

1) Clear CMOS. That will revert the board back to defaults.
2) In UEFI, scroll along the top pane until you get to a page with save settings and exit shown. In that list there is an option ot load defaults.

Now if the system is "unstable" at defaults, it's likely a memory related issue. Do you have a part number for that memory kit? I have not heard of Corsair Vengeance kit with 16GB modules. Are you sure that's not 2X8GB? If so is it just one kit, or have you combined multiple memory kits?

1) Can you tell me when the freezes occur - do you get BSODs? If you are getting a BSOD, then let me know what the BSOD shows as the error. If it's just a freeze, then it could be a number of things we'l have to chase down systematically.
2) Which OS are you using?
3) Have you tried loading the XMP settings for the memory kit?

1) Screen freezes, I continue to hear sound (music playing).
2) Fedora 18
3) No.

I'll try to update to the latest fedora with a fresh install and get back to you, thanks.

Hi,

Thanks anyway.

Now: I sent the computer back to the store for fixing, and I removed my SSD and SATA2.5 disks from it back to my Asus G73jw.
There was one thing I did (doesn't matter what - fixing conflicts in a git merge in Intelij IDEA) that seemed to trigger the problem very often.
Now when doing the same thing back on the laptop the program gets freezed (note: the program! - only!) and I have to terminate it.

Sooo I'm guessing this may be a disks issue.
If that's the case: 1.: great - motherboard should work great with disks ok. 2.: bad - expensive motherboards like this should not fail and freeze just because of a disk failure (the one in the G73jw does not).

Thanks

If the disk is faulty, the system would freeze if a critical system file cannot be accessed. Nothing the motherboard could do no matter how expensive or cheap about that - it's to do with software and drivers and the drive itself being accessed etc. Diffrerent installations may not need to access certain system files or drivers - which is fairly self explanatory. Bottom line, I don't think pointing fingers at this being a board fault due to issues with other hardware is in any way a logical assumption.
