Very confused on Gpu Power consumption

Hey guys

I currently have a GTX 760. I wanted to know how much power my GPU uses, according to the internet its about 150 watts during gaming. So I went into bf4 and my % of tdp according to GPU-Z was only 54%! I knew something must be wrong! So is there another program I can use to find out how many watts I'm using or is this the correct amount?

Thanks

That's more resonable, though I'd expect it to be closer to the limit. Is the GPU usage at 100%?

The 2x8-pin is what should be expected, just wanted to check that the card has enough power available.

What clocks is the card running at? If you use EVGA Precision you could increase the power target for GPU boost, as there seems to be a good amount of headroom left.
Hello,

I don't really see why you assume something is wrong. Your card does indeed require about 150 Watts at most, as can be seen here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-760-review-gk104,3542-22.html

That of course, does not mean it will do so all the time. While BF4 is a graphically demanding game, you shouldn't expect your VGA to run constantly close to TDP. As the name suggests, TDP (thermal design power) is the maximum power that can be reliably sustained without exceeding the cooling capacity. If you are worried that something is wrong and your card is not working as it should, check your GPU usage. That will be a much better indicator.

Also, keep in mind that while Nvidia rates that particular card with a 170 Watt TDP, it does so considering a reference cooling design. In practice, since most OEMs change the reference design, some models will exceed that value safely, while others won't.

Unless your motherboard comes with some dedicated hardware for power monitoring, any software you use will have a considerable error magin.

That 150watts is how much power the GPU is using at that moment. Shouldn't mine be near that amount at, at least 130? It is right now according to GPU-Z at 85watts. The TDP is 170watts

Not unless there is actually demand for that. If you are wondering if the readings are correct, I'd suggest running furmark while reading with GPU-Z. It should stress your card quite heavily. If you still get low readings, than either your card is really not working at its full capacity or the readings are off, the latter being most likely.

Does your card use two PCI-E power cables?

EDIT: Also, just remembered that Furmark reads power usage on its own, though I'd expect it to report the same as GPU-Z.
