Hi, i have been attempting to overclock my 8150 recently and it wont go past 3.9 ghz in windows, and it goes down to 3.3ghz with prime 95 running,i have no idea whats going on, and my cpu isn't going past 40c.

Here are my specs

CPU:AMD FX 8150

COOLER: HYPER 212 EVO

MOBO: ASUS CROSSHAIR V

RAM: CORSAIR VENGENCE 4X4 1600

GFX CARD:GIGABYTE WINDFORCE 6970

HDD: 2 500GB CAVIAR BLUES IN RAID 0

Thank you for reading.

Solution
it has to be mobo related.

have you updated your bios?

also have you tried disabling the turbo mode and setting everything manually?

Also disable all the power saving features like cool and quiet etc.

I cant update my bios since i have no flashdrive, once i acquire one i will try to.

0813 is the revision to support your cpu. I would update to the newest revision regardless

that is correct and most likely hardware related and not the BIOS, the CPU reducing speed under load would point me towards the RAM and/or the Northbridge..

I knew it haha but 90c damn your going to kill that thing 62c is max core temps.

Invest in a decent heatsink ASAP

Btw is there anyway i can get around 4.2+ with a evo under 62c?

hmm you shouldn't be that high with that cooler. What voltage are you running? 4.4 you should be able to run 1.29-1.31 no problems

I was running it at 1.4, so i can get 4.4ghz with 1.31 as the voltage ( im on bios 1703)

yes you should be able to do 1.29-1.31 no problem on that board. strat with 1.31 and go down a tad if its stable. did you disable all the power saving features as well?

also what do you have your DIGI settings set to on your board? I set my llc to high then cpu power phase control to optimized and cpu current capability to 120-130.

Test failed within 5 min so 1.32 isn't enough for 4.4ghz I'm going to try 1.35
