Hey I already have a laptop but its way too big and heavy for me to carry to class and back...all i need is something Very light to carry and JUST for note taking and web surfing. The only problem is that the keyboard needs to be of regular size, normal screen size (Im half blind), and CHEAP. Thanks! Open to laptops, netbooks, notebooks etc -
P.s no tablets please, i already have one and its useless other than for entertainment.
P.S.S When i meant cheap, im thinking at max 300, but better around 200 or below (Im hopeful since i dont need the thing to have more than a browser and doc,)

That's the cheapest new laptop I have seen lately http://www.frys.com/product/7701278?site=sa:adpages%20page:p2_FRI%20date:110813
"Cheap" and "Light" don't go together very well. Just look the difference in prices between ordinary laptops and so called "Ultrabooks".

I still think that adding a keyboard to a tablet should work for your note-taking.

Edit: Actually, if you can survive with very limited functionality, ChromeBooks can be a viable option. Here is something both light and cheap: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-XE303C12-A01US-Chromebook-Wi-Fi-11-6-Inch/dp/B009LL9VDG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1384188970&sr=8-2&keywords=chromebook

Well my tablet is pretty small, and i do have a key board for it but it can probably only fit one hand..i would love to get a bigger tablet but that usually comes with a bigger price tag not including the keyboard i would have to get for it. And i already have a laptop that works well, i just need something portable. I'm looking at chromebooks, just trying to find out which one would be the best. also, your first links not working, it says there some error so i cant open it.

you mention that you want "normal screen size" and "normal resolution" however what you are describing is a laptop screen. yes you can get lighter weight laptops but they only differ by a few pounds and typically this affects battery life.

all of the lightweight options such as netbooks are much smaller than laptops. they have a smaller screen but also a smaller resolution so the text on screen will be about the same size. the keyboard is also smaller due to the smaller frame.

netbooks are available for $300 easy and are very light. they work well for just taking notes and you can even do some basic web browsing on them. other than that they are rather impractical compared to a laptop.

personally i'd just suggest getting a rolling case for your current laptop so you dont need to carry it. you get to keep your full size keyboard and screen and the weight is no longer much of an issue (except if you go up steps but i think you can manage a few steps)

Thanks, as u can probably tell i know nothing about computers. are netbooks really that much smaller, i've never seen one other than pics online...

laptops are typically about 14-16" diagonal for the screen. netbooks are around 10-12" diagonal.

there is also a big difference in weight. a netbook isnt too much heavier than a large tablet. a fraction of the weight of a laptop.
