My 28 month old Gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r rev2 mb is pretty much gone. In all my years I have had good luck with gigabyte, but have never had a mb fail this quickly. I have a corsair 120gb sata3 ssd for the sys drive and a hitachi 3tb sata3 data drive hooked up to the 2 sata3 board connections. I have never gotten close to sata3 performance out of the Marvell, let alone sata2 performance and it looks like gigabytes x58 predecessor boards all use Marvell 9128 as well. It looks like asus uses the Marvell 9128 also. I am running win7 64bit. I have 3x4gb corsair 1600ddr3 mem sticks, i7 960 processor, GeForce gtx560ti. I use the built on lan and audio.

Don't really know whether Marvell is the problem or gigabyte??

I'm not too concerned with expansion capabilities and am considering a micro-tax mb and rack type case to cut down on foot print. However I will probably replace with atx mb right now in my current tower case.

Anyway need to decide what to replace it with and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I think you are hard to find the x58 MB, and it is the marvel ahci controller problem, the marvel SATAIII does not have the turly 6GB/s speed. You should plan to move on to 3rd or 4th gen intel system. If you can sale those i7 960 and 12GB RAM to somebody else and use the $$ toward the new sysytem.
