RAM Question, is 3 x 4GB okay, stable?

So a year ago I bought a 2 x 4gb RAM kit (Crucial Ballistix series). I wanted to go to 4 x 4gb, but with the increase in cost of RAM I'm deciding to buy one stick at a time. I know RAM runs best in a dual channel configuration. All I am wondering is, will I have trouble running a 3 stick set up for a few weeks until I order the forth and final stick? All ram sticks are identical.

Thanks for the help!

Depending on the motherboard and CPU you have, it may run in dual channel anyway. I'm not sure if AMD has done anything like this, but most (if not all now) Intel CPU's support a feature called Flex Memory. This allows cumulative memory sizes in each channel to differ, but remain in a sort of pseudo-dual channel mode (called Asynchronous or Asymmetric dual channel mode). There is a slight performance hit over running in Symmetric or Synchronous dual channel mode, but it's MUCH better than running as single channel. Running the system this way for a few weeks should be no problem at all.
