Hi everyone so beginning about a week ago I went to turn on my computer and nothing started. I concluded that my PSU must have died so I ordered a new one but i haven't had time to install it quite yet. Could it be possible that my MOBO is dead? Would a dead MOBO prevent my computer from even turning on. I will try and work in time to install my new PSU tonight and see if i can get things to work.

Also, the night before my computer failed to start the power in my house shut down briefly and flickered back on causing my computer to turn off. I turned it back on and it worked fine for hours, after the next morning it wouldn't turn on again. Could my MOBO and the components attached to it be fried/destroyed? I'd appreciate any feedback/help thanks.

Specs are:

i5-3750k
GTX 770 2bg
8g RAM
Asus z68 MOBO

It is possible that the board is bad but really depends on the quality of the PSU which is more likely to fail. Sometimes it is enough to reset the PSU by either unplugging it or using the switch on it.

Yes I tried unplugging my old PSU and switching it on and off but nothing seemed to work. The fan in my old PSU wouldn't move or anything so I'm assuming it was my PSU, hopefully I'll be able to install this new one in tonight to see what happens.

You are most likely correct in replacing that PSU... Could it be something else... well it could but I think you are on the right track.

Some no-name PSUs have a fuse block in them that can blow. AC line was fluctuating this may have created stress on the PSU and caused that.

Replace the PSU with a quality unit in the correct wattage range and try powering the PC on.

Will I need to fully and completely install my new PSU into my computer and then try to power it on to be able to tell whether this new PSU is alright?
