I think you will find that the drivers are present.

Do you have an application that can 'Capture' video? Something like Pinnacle perhaps?

If not, download and install Skype. Part of the installation will test your webcam.

If Windows has the drivers, then you should see yourself on the telly. :)

Then, if you want to, you can uninstall Skype.

I might have accidentally uninstalled the drivers for webcam.
And skype or any other capture apps are not able to detect webcam.
do you haver any idea which driver is used in the above model ?
eg. Sony Visual Communications Camera in Windows Vista for few vaio series.

Did you try Skype?

Or Mibik19's suggestion: yawcam?

If these apps don't detect your webcam then there is something else wrong.

I tried yawcam. It doesnt work in my laptop.

I tried viewing in skype, webcam companion and all other capturing softwares. It says cant detect webcam. Then i tried to find my webcam driver under Imaging Devices in Device Manager which lists Lexmark X422 as the driver. And when i tried to find the drivers on Lexmark website, it seems it is used only for printers and not for webcam.

The 'Imaging device' you are looking at is your Lexmark printer's scanner.

When did the webcam stop working?

Then you should uninstall it (the Lexmark) from your Installed Programs list.

While you are there, look to see if any other hardware device drivers have been recently installed without your knowledge or consent.

If you find any from about a month ago, uninstall them.

Now, click on 'Installed Windows updates' and uninstall all the updates that were done about and just before the time the problem first occurred.

Restart.

Has Windows 'rediscovered' the webcam?

My apologies. It is the webcam.

Okay, well...

Go to this site =

http://download.cnet.com/Lexmark-X422/3000-2116_4-206151.html

and download the driver.

When it downloads, right click on it and 'Run as administrator'.

And follow the instructions.

Again, I apologise for the confusion. Lexmark = printer to me.

Usually.

I hope this helps. :)

No, it's not.

Go to Device Manager and click on View.

Select 'Show hidden devices'.

Now does the webcam show up in Imaging Devices? Is it 'Disabled'?

If it isn't, uninstall it.

And uninstall the Lexmark too.

Delete the file of these two drivers as well.

(Do you have Lexmark stuff in your Installed Programs list? You should uninstall it from there too.)

Restart Windows and see if it picks up the webcam.

Did it?

Not yet.

Try this.

Shut down the computer.

Unplug the adapter and remove the battery.

Hold the power button down for fifteen to twenty seconds.

Attach the battery and the power adapter and restart the machine.

Open up Device Manager and click on Action on the tool-bar.

Select Scan for hardware changes.
