Greetings all,

Looking for an answer, but I think I have a DOA mother board.

Build:
Corsair 900D case
Intel Core I7-4960x ivey Bridge 3.6 GHz
Asus Sabertooth X79 mother board
Geforce GTX780 video card
Creative Sound Blaster Z sound card
32 Gb of Corsair Vengeance 2400 mHz Ramm
Twin Samsung 840 Pro 256 Gb SSD
Seagate 3 TB 7200 RPM storage hard drive
Corsair AX1200i platinum power supply

Water cooling:
Black ice SR-1 4 120mm fan radiator
Swiftech MCP35X water pump
Phobya 5.25 dual bay reservoir
Waterblocks for the graphics card and CPU are by Watercool

Spent yesterday building the loop and flushed it with a small power supply while I ran wires to the rest of the system. Try to power up the system and get nothing (yes the MB appears to have power, green indicator light is illuminated) Start removing peripherals to the point I only had the MB receiving power, one stick of ramm and still got nothing. Grab alternate power supply (even though the self test on the AX1220i came back green) plug it into the board and still nothing. Attempted to use the ASUS check ramm feature of the board with no response. All power pins check and secure.

I don't have am external 2 pin power switch I can plug onto the board (I will have one when I get off work) but I doubt that is the problem. I am assuming the board is dead, but I thought I would reach out to see if anyone in the community might have a suggestion. My buddy and I checked and re-checked, I do not want to tear down and rebuild because I missed something dumb......

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Phil

It may just require a BIOS update to accommodate the newer 4960x processor or you could have some other hardware that has a compatibility issue with the current version of your BIOS.

A great thing about the Asus higher-end motherboards, such as the sabertooth, is you can flash the BIOS with literally nothing plugged into the motherboard but the power supply and a USB memory stick using the BIOS flashback utility. Since you haven't gotten it to post yet, the first thing I'd do (since you can't see what BIOS level the board is at) is run the CAP converter so that you can run the latest revision of the BIOS:
SABERTOOTH-X79-CAP-Converter
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/#suppor...

Then get the newest revision of the BIOS and run update using the flashback utility:
SABERTOOTH X79 BIOS 4502

Follow the instructions for using the BIOS flashback for both items above.

If you want to isolate the problem completely, I'd remove every component, including the CPU from the motherboard until you update the BIOS using BIOS flashback, then rebuild after the BIOS updates.

Got the pm... Because the memory controller is on the CPU, and the BIOS installed on the board might pre-date the CPU, an incompatibility between the motherboard BIOS and the CPU could affect the memory diagnostic of the board.

Updating the BIOS to accommodate the new CPU may be exactly what you need.

Ubercake is correct - you need to update UEFI by using USB BIOS flashback with a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive and the file renamed accordingly.

Problem solved, when team building a system verify each others work. Water cooling loop moved out of the way and mother board removed to replace with new board. Open CPU chip latch to find said CPU installed upside down..... Okay now that you are are done laughing, this was mistakenly done by someone that is an expert builder. No longer are CPU's insert one way only!

Actually they are insert one way only - they won't sit in the socket properly if you put them in the wrong way due to the notches in the socket and on the processor PCB...

Not so sure I would consider someone an expert builder that inserts a CPU in an incorrect manner... unless there was alcohol or certain substances involved? ;)

Glad you got it worked out though.
