Current Build:
I'm looking to move solely to my PC as a gaming platform. Any games that I have bought recently can be ran with middle ground settings with little to no problems. My concern is that as my components get older (going on 2 years probably) they won't be able to keep up with the higher demands of new games.
I'm trying to keep the upgrade relatively cheap since my computer does really everything I need/want it to do right now. At this point I obviously just want something new and shiny but also I'm looking to the future to keep this PC up-to-date.
The problem I'm running into is that CPUs that I'm looking at (such as the AMD FX-6350) are AM3+ sockets. The motherboard, that I didn't intend to replace, is AM3 so as far as I know they are not compatible. My understanding is that the AM3+ sockets have an extra pin, making them physically not fit together. Is there any way around this that I can't see? Or am I going to have to upgrade my motherboard as well.
I was also going to get these:
Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, I was just trying to not build a whole new computer. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Josh
