The new 780 TI beats the r9 290x atm and there is also a superclocked version of the 780 TI from EVGA.

It depends on the gpu chip, its luck. Atm I read a review where they got the Gigabyte GTX 780 Ti to this values: (1.116/1.181/3.746)
Inno3D GTX 780 Ti :t (1.102/1.168/3.903)

if you want to overclock it yourself, you should water cool it. not sure if 780ti water blocks are out yet though

Will those few extra mhz be major when it comes to performance

I would go with the 290, the 780ti is less than 11% better for $300 more lol

Really need to know your resolution. It has already been proven the 3GB of RAM on the 780TI is not enough and when they bring out 6GB versions, prices will be ridiculous. If you are at 1080P for the next 3 years, go with the 780TI if you're rich and like the games that come with it. Otherwise the R9 290 (non X) is by far the best option and I'll be grabbing one soon.

Yes you could if you had enough $$$ for watercooling. I honestly think you should buy the EVGA 780 Ti from Amazon though.

Sli is not perfect, it is better when it work and if it would be double performance but it is not.
