Power Surges randomly started happening...

Hi guys,

I built a new rig about 3 months ago - all new components except for the case and PSU.

It had all been working fine until yesterday (playing skyrim with a load of mods - so i thought it may have been overloaded) when the system switched off completely - fans/lights / everything. On reboot, the ASUS screen said there was a power surge detected and I was redirected to BIOS

It happened again today whilst on football manager (a LOT less taxing than skyrim with full mods). I'm wondering is it likely to be PSU or my house socket? I currently have it plugged into a power strip with a few other plugs (never had a problem with this plug setup before with other pc)

Thanks guys

600w PSU
i7 3770
8gb ram
Radeon HD7850 2gb

Try a different PSU. See if that would eliminate the problem. It sounds like it could be a bad PSU. So try and find one laying around you could use.

Cheers man, got advice from my pc savvy friend, and he thinks its the PSU too.

Tbh, I'm pretty sure it must be that - just worried it was my socket/any of the new (expensive) hardware i put in it!

I knew this PSU wouldn't last long - any recommendations on which PSU?

Actually I have a great new brand. They are really cheap since they are trying to establish a place in the market and they run extremely well.

I currently have their 850W and its a beast. My friend has one to and has also had no issue. 60 Bucks for the PSU is a great deal.
