Physical memory & GPU memory does'nt have to be in the same architecture. So dont worry ,unless you have a reaaally ancient mobo its sure to support a GPU with higher version of SDRAM.

my own previous setup had 4 gigs of DDR2 memory coupled with an ATI 6670 having 1GB GDDR5 memory....

Buddy, I'll repeat ....physical memory architecture DOES NOT depend on what type of gpu memory you have. It does'nt matter if ur using DDR2 RAM and a video card having GDDR5 type memory. Dont worry, go ahead with the purchase!

Happy gaming!
