I installed a new top 200mm fan in my case.

When i connected the fan led wire from the fan to the motherboard (2pin where you connect pwrsw, etc) , and turned on the pc , there was smoke going out of this wire. I plugged it out immediately.

When i tried turning the pc on again , there was no post , not even bios. Just black screen. All fans were spinning , even the cpu fan and graphics card. I tried removing the mb battery and installing it again , i even tried resseting cmos from the jumper.

Also tried removing all the ram and switching on the pc but there were no beeps. Only bulb that it's on in the motherboard is a green bulb.

What does this mean ? Dead mobo ?

Remove the battery, Disconnect the pc from its power. Hold in the power button for about 20 seconds to discharge all power from the PSU. Wait about 10 minutes. Then put battery back and reconnect power. See what happens.

Done. Im waiting for the 10 minutes to pass by. For the step that i should hold the power button for 20 seconds , i shall hold it when the battery is out and pc unplugged , right ?

Yeah. You can do it with the battery in as well and then remove it. I just personally do it after I removed the battery.

I think you will have to take it in and let them look at it. Maybe they will need to replace the board. Either the board is shorting out when you power it on or its dead. The fact that it cuts out and then stays on after is a little weird.

Is the board still under warranty?

Ok. Remove all the fan cables connected to the motherboard. Make sure that only the large Power cable is connected to the board and the 4/8 pin CPU cable. Take out all the ram. Take out the graphics card if you have one in. Make sure the PC speaker is connected to the motherboard. Then try booting. If there is no beeping then I would suggest you look at getting a new motherboard.

You could also try doing this with the motherboard outside the case on a cardboard box.

Can you explain exactly what do you mean by Large power cable , 4/8 pin cpu cable and pc speaker please? Maybe some more details or some pictures. Thanks.

Please load a photo of your mother in the case.

There usually a 4 pin (square power connector) or 8 pin (rectangular power connector that connects to a port surrounding the cpu somewhere. Usually between the CPU and back panel ports. The large power connector is that long rectangular power cable plugged into the motherboard.(usually the largest connector on the motherboard)

If you PC use to beep when you booted up then the PC speaker should be connected.

I did as you told me. Only the large cable connected to the motherboard and the 4/8pin connected above the cpu. I unplugged ram and graphics card and all fansconnected to the motherboard , even the cpu cooler. No beeps !

As for buying a new motherboard for my intel core i5 750 (1156) , what do you suggest from these websites ?

Asus boards are generally well designed and of great quality. Good luck with your new system.

Oh and btw. I wouldnt touch that fan again. Just to be safe.
