Low framerate problem after upgrading to Gigabyte Geforce GTX 760 OC

I recently purchased a gigabyte geforce gtx 760 OC with the hope that I will be able to run new FPS games such as battlefield 4 and call of duty ghosts without the frame rate problems I was experiencing with my old graphics card.

I bought a new 600watt corsair PSU to suit, completely removed the old drivers and installed the new drivers appropriately.

I'm currently running an AMD FX4100 quad-core (overclocked by 10%) processor and have 16gb ram. my operating system is installed onto an OCZ vertex SSD but I run my games through steam/origin from my HDD.

I'm considering formatting my drives and performing a clean install of everything on my PC as it's the only thing I can think to do after messing around with all my settings, even setting them onto the lowest (which is really feel I shouldn't have to having bought a decent spec. graphics card)

Nothing seems to sort out this low frame rate problem I'm having, even when just playing a campaign I'm only getting a maxiumum of 50 which will often drop as low as 15 and not improve. It lags that bad online it's absolutely impossible to play! (I have a 50Mbps fibre optic internet connection)

I was wondering if it was because my processor was bottlenecking my new GPU but I surely shouldn't be experiencing a much worse framerate than before? The only other factor I can think of is that I'm currently plugged into a fairly old 40" Sony Bravia HD TV through HDMI. I know that some computer specific monitors dazzle you with all these features they have specifically designed for games but Ive been told that the TV/Monitor you use shouldn't cause the game to stutter or experience such a big shift in framerate. Can anyone help me?

If I'm currently using an AMD processor, I'm going to have to replace my motherboard as well as my processor if I'm to switch to an i5. Is are AM3+ processors just no good for gaming? I've never experienced these problems with online gaming on my PC before. Until yesterday I was only running a Geforce GTX 550ti and that worked perfectly for everything! Damn battlefield making my life feel insignificant! haha

So is the majority consensus that my processor is indeed bottlenecking my new kick-ass graphics card?

For now I may see if I can overclock my CPU slightly more seeing as it's liquid intercooled. I presume overclocking my graphics card at this stage would actually just make everything worse?

The FX6300 looks like a good purchase, is there a higher spec AM3+ processor you would recommend for gaming? I'm willing to go over a £80 budget for the sake of longevity.
