Before you comment on my motherboard read this. This x79 platform may not make a significant difference in gaming, however, I am going to be using it for overclocking mainly. This x79 motherboard will be at no cost to me, because my sibling is buying it (and he thinks it's a good mobo.. which it is).

This PC is built for gaming, heh, that's why I put it in this section. This is my first PC Build this is why I have some extra costs like a monitor.

Questions I have:

* Will my H100i Water Cooler fit inside my case?
* Will it be better to get an R9 290X or 2 R9 280X's (Crossfire)
* Does 2400mhz RAM really make much of a difference loading applications?
* What DVD Drive do you guys suggest I use? (I just want to install windows 7)
* I need to cut something .. total is around 2k right now.. what do you suggest?
* Is 1000w enough power?
* Do you guys have any suggestions for a cheaper or even better monitor that isn't over $200.
* Any other suggestions?
* Can I ask anymore questions?

---

Specs (as it stands):

($333) CPU: i7 4820k (3.7 ghz, 4 cores) - Basically i7 4770K except for LGA 2011 Platform

($110) CPU Cooler: H100i Water Cooler

($600) GPU: 2 R9 280X's (Crossfire)

($180) SSD: Samsung EVO 840 (250gb)

($60) HDD: WesternDigital (500gb)

($180) RAM: 16 GB G.SKILL Trident RAM (2400 mhz) (Quad Channel)

($0) MOBO: Asus IV Rampage Extreme Black Edition

($130) CASE: Rosewell Thor v2

($200) MONITOR: Benq RL2455HM (MLG) (24in) (1ms)

($130) PS: Rosewell BRONZE (1000w) (Crossfire Ready)

($100) OS: Windows 7

Total: 2023 (budget is 1.8k)

Thanks :).

Solution
Very good build overall.
* Water cooler will fit inside your case just fine.
* I do not get why you want 2 GPUs are you planing to run a multi monitor setup? If yes go with the the double r9 280x I suppose . If not i think even one r9 280x with crossfire support it absolutely fine . No need to get the best AMD GPU on the market take the 2nd or 3rd best :D
* When it come to speed in RAM you have to thing about that. No overclocking = do not go over 1600mhz . But you said you will overclock so: the differences as you go up in speed level are getting smaller . ie 1333-1600 significant difference, 1600-2133 smaller , 2133-2400 even smaller . So I think 2133 mhz will be good for you , even 1600 mhz will be good for you gaming-wise . Games...

I will try to answer a few of those questions.

-First off, i have never seen felt of heard of any real diference between 1600 ram and 2444,
as it stands today its seems that even if 2444 ram is faster, its not worth the money
You are also paying 180$ for 16gb, while i paid 120€ for my more expensive kingston.
You can save a lot of money by getting 1600 ram and maybe 2x8 if its cheaper.

-As for the GPU, i always say to get the single best card possible, crossfire/sli
are in most cases unstable and may not perform as expected in such games, resulting
in more power and not that great performance, a bit disapoiting. A single 290
would be my choice and crossfire later.

-The 1000W is overkill even for the dual card, you can save a few bucks and get a 750/800W
wich is still enough to crossfire the 290 later. (make sure its a good brand to)

-Currently i have the asus vs248h, its a very good monitor, good colors and everything. Asus are known
for having the best value monitors and i couldnt agree, at around 170 180 its the best
monitor i have seen.

-Any cheap 10$ drive is enough (you say ur not going to use it much anyway, and they are not very expensive either way.)

-Not sure on cooler fiting (should be no reason not to tough) Check the case space and acount for the dimensions of the GPU.

Hope this helps.

*For DVD Drive you dont need something special ( unless you want to read/copy bluray or something ) find a cheap and effective one and you are good
*1000W is more that enough. If you run 2xR9 280x then 850-900W would be enough too. The thing is that 1000W will give you room for future upgrades
* I say one r9 280x crossfire, less mhz RAM , less Watt PSU
* I would say for gaming you dont need an i7 . An i5- 4670K will be suffisient too. GPU matters more than CPU in gaming.
* Yes you can ask as many questions as you like :D

Thanks, I appreciate both your answers.

Right now I'm not running a multi-monitor setup. I mainly wanted to get two R9 280X's for the performance boost it might give. Do you think it'll give that much boost? Or do you still think I'm just better off getting one card.

I might go with 1866mhz (right in the middle :) ). I just read an article stating that if you keep increasing the "speed" the latency increases. It's about $60 cheaper anyways to go with 1866mhz.

I still need to cut about $60- any suggestions?

A single 290 goes for around 450 right?
Thats a ton of saving right there :)
Cant really see anywere else to cut back.

Come to think of it R9 290X comes in around $550. I can save $50 there.
