In my new build, I mistakenly connected the Samsung
(MZ-7PD256BW) SSD to the 3 GB/s port on the ASUS motherboard (Asus
P8Z77-V LK). The system is currently operational with Windows 8.1 OS.

Can the Samsung SSD connection be changed from 3 GB/s to 6 GB/s connection on the motherboard? If so, what changes will be to be made, as this SSD is functioning as the root drive?

Solution
It should be safe. You may have to go into the bios and select the SSD as the boot drive in case it changes when you change ports. If not, simply put it back onto the 3Gb/s port again.
