Hi Guyz,

One quick question regarding the installation of a q6600 stock cooler on e8400.

I have a E8400 CPU ( yes, quite old platform now ) with that skinny stock cooler. My temps are staying around 38 at idle and around 50-55 on heavy load. There might been some periods when the cpu was going around 60 but not for long.

I am planning to change the cooler to a better one and i can get a Q6600 stock cooler. Before i get that one ( for free from a friend ) i wanna know if there is someone that actually installed that tall cooler from Intel on a 65W cpu and if so what are the results?

I am expecting to get those temps down with that tall cooler. Might there be a chance to go with 5-10 degrees lower with that cooler ?

I know that there are some other alternatives using aftermarket cooler but for me Intel's stock cooler is quite ok with the noise produced.

Thanks!

You can use that cooler, becasue they are compatible the lga775 socket cpu. And you will not get much temp down because the intel cooler don't do the good job, if you want to get about 5-10 degrees lower then you should buy low budget aftermarker cpu cooler, like the 92mm size one Cooler Master Hyper TX3. If you want buy the better one 120mm like the hyper 212evo or plus.
