I currently have a pair of Turtle Beach X12's. They were a pretty decent headset, but the bass is starting to die on them, and I've only had them for a few months. I think it's time to try something new. Their performance was decent. There was little background noise, but the mic quality isn't the best. The actual headphone part was actually pretty good in my opinion. I thought long and hard whether or not I want to get a headset, or headphones and a mic separate. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a headset for now, and then by a separate mic later for better recording. I'm just going to give some more information about what I'm looking for so you guys can better help me.

What I liked about the X12's
Long cord. I like to be able to lay in bed while talking on skype.
As long as the room was quite, the mic didn't have any buzzing noise or fuzz.
The bass boost was a nice feature.
The headset is pretty comfortable, even for a big head wearing glasses.

What I didn't like about the X12's
They only lasted around 6 months.
They picked up sound from outside.
Mic quality wasn't the best.

I'm looking for something with great headphones, and a decent mic. The mic doesn't really matter a whole lot since I'll pretty much only use it for skype. Something with the same, or better quality than the Turtle Beach's would work for the headphones. I could also use something durable with a long chord. I've fallen asleep with my Turtle Beaches many times without any problems. Finally, my budget is around 70 - 80 dollars.

These are full over the ear type. Not on the ear cushions. You can still hear if the phone rings or someone talks to you. When music is on there is pretty good isolation but you do not fell isolated from the room. I wear them for hours and I do wear glasses. The mic. is one of the best. I play a few different MMO type games and online voice is important to me. The sound for games and music is awesome. The software permits Dolby surround effects and the localization is good. I bought from Amazon. I recommend buying from them or Newegg since they both have a no questions return policy.

Ok, sounds good! What about the extra stuff? Are they durable? Do they have a long cord? How long have you had them?

Have them about 1 year. No issues at all. Cord is about 6 1/2 ft. USB connection and flexible. They still look like new so durable I guess yes. The speaker padding is easily remove to brush off. Lots of reviews on Amazon. If you want more user comments.

yeah i 2nd the 780 recommendation. definitely one of the best bang-for-your-buck headsets you'll be able to find.

if you want to a little higher (~$75), steelseries makes a really good pair as well - the Siberia V2. they're circumaural and have pretty solid surround-sound. the bass is punchy too, if you like a lot of bass.

best of luck man. have fun gaming
