Trying to get a $750 ish build for Christmas so I thought I'd start early. Im using this rig mainly to game, so a good GPU and CPU are a must. Any tips where to get started let me know.

Thanks

I'd probably build something around an AMD FX processor. Here's one option, assuming you need an OS:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($117.97 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($65.94 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.94 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card ($179.99 @ Microcenter)
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg)...

This gives you a few bucks breathing room, if you want a different case, or PSU or something. On thing you could do is substitute a 7870 XT (http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=PC-787_2V3&c=CJ) for the 660 for a bit more performance.

Thanks a lot! I just needed a place to get started at. This should get me going!

Fx 6300
ASUS M5A97
2 x2 gig of 1600 MHZ RAM , rated for 1.5 volts
1 terabyte seagate Hybrid hard drive [ near SSD speed]
500 watt 80+ bronze [ or better ] psu
Win 8 64 bit [ better license that lets you move it to a new computer , faster , and easy to make it behave just like 7 ]
GTX 760 or Radeon 7950 [ definitely not the GTX 660 which mostly is worse than a 7870 and costs $30 more ]
