R9280x works with 500 watts psu?

It says that it can consume up to 300w in the specifications of the card on the Asus web site. That would make a 500w power supply a very risky proposition. I would be more inclined to have a 600w or 650w PSU in my computer for that card. I realize that you have a computer with a 500w already in there but that's cutting it close. If you went ahead and got that card with the realization that it could need a larger PSU then you could go ahead and get it. But it's going to be up to you, me personally I would be getting a 650w PSU along with that card.

The close to 400W is a Furmark stress test. Gaming load was 311W.

My general rule of thumb is only use a PSU if it has the proper PCIe connectors (i.e. 2x6-pin). If it has the proper connectors you should be safe.

Okay, so I'm no absolute expert on GPU's but it seems as though the Gpu you want only draws about 400-450 watts on full load. Depending on the total power consumption of the rest of you PC, you could get away with it. BUT, I would make the card pull less power buy underclocking it, and or making it run cooler/quieter. Also, if you have an overclocked CPU, you may want to go down a bit on the speed. Just a suggestion, no idea if it will work.
