New Build issues. Can anyone suggest reasons for failure?

Hi Guys,

I need help :(

i7-4770k
EVGA GTX 780
16gb (2x 8gb) Corair Vengeance
Gigabyte Z87 UD4H motherboard
Thermaltake case
Coolermaster Closed Loop cooler
Corsair CM750x PSU

This is my first build and I have not looked at overclocking (yet)

The system originally booted up and I have installed Win8 without issue. My first problem came after I left it downloading a game on steam. I went up to find it powered down and unable to reboot (light on the mobo power switch but no response)

I took out components and tried booting with memory and gxf card removed. It threw out beeps at me indicating a lack of memory. I plugged all back in and it booted again.

As a side issue, when powering down the PC it completely shuts down the power and I have to turn the PSU off and on again. I have been told this is something that can be changed with the ACPI and after looking into it, it does seem likely, though I can not find anywhere in the BIOS to change the settings.

I ran a 4 hour torture test on the CPU with no issues, using Power95. Today I have run a 30 minute test on the gfx card using Furmark. When I went to shut this program down, the system completely died, not even a BSoD.

Since then, I have to been able to power up the PC. On resetting the PSU, the light on the onboard power switch comes on. Pushing either power button (case or mobo) causes a momentary powerup, and then nothing (barely 0.5 secs). Light on mobo power switch stays on but refuses to do anything else.

Hi Chugot,

CPU torture peaked at 54 celcius and gfx test peaked at 74 celcius. Temps seem to be holding within accepted parameters :(

Case already had standoffs in place for the board I was using. Additional standoffs would put the mobo out of place from the IO shield, so I presume I have done it correctly..... could this be worth looking at?

Yes those temperatures are quite alright. The having to reset the PSU to get the computer to boot is a very interesting thing though. It definitely screams something to do with the BIOS power settings. I'm not familiar with gigabytes bios perhaps someone who has a z87 bios from gigabyte would know. Have you sent a ticket into Gigabyte?

Hi Bigshootr,

No ticket to gigabyte yet as I was not sure it was the mobo that was the issue. I was wondering if it may be an issue with the PSU, but I am not experienced enough to be able to identify this specifically so I thought I would ask here (new member but been reading here for months) as someone may be able to suggest something I have not thought of. I will raise a ticket to gigabyte and see what they say too.

Couldn't hurt to. I know Corsair Power supplies are pretty boss. I have a AX850 and have nothing but great things to say about it. But you are smart in thinking one or the other both have to talk to each other upon post.

Had a friend round last night and we breadboarded again (checking the standoffs were there and yes, I avoided the n00b mistake.... thankfully). Went through the BIOS settings after flashing to latest version and hope that we have sorted it through some of the confusingly labled options. Hopefully this is now resolved, but I will post further if it fails. Thanks all :)

Very good so you were able to fix the situation by flashing the bios very good :)
