I am going to build a new gaming desktop but I really want to be able to play games remotely in the family room. I usually have an hour a day while the wife watches "soaps". I can go to the mancave area when I have more time but i'm trying to figure out the best way to make this happen?

I see the new steam is supposed to have a way to make this game streaming work better? DO i need to wait or is there something great out there to do this?

I was thinking of using like a Chromebook laptop or something semi cheap so all the money can be in the desktop. The laptop would be for emails and brief gaming, etc.

1) What kind of actual laptop would I need to really make that happen?

2) What components or system or software do i need to remotely game so my PC can be in another room or upstairs?

Thanks so much for the help.

So I need something that has windows or similar basically? I just am not sure what I'd need to have a fast (basically an SSD and Haswell) boot time with a screen that's fast enough to play games however i'm connecting to desktop. Not sure what kind of specs i'd really need? Any ideas to help me research?

I did read that before but I wanted something much bigger screen wise that I'd still use keyboard/mouse for gaming with, etc. Perhaps i'm trying to get something not doable yet. My PC would be in a totally different room so no 'blue tooth" or similar wireless to it nearby it would need to be over network?

I realize I said "chromebook" when i meant to say "Ultrabook". Basically just a portable pc that wasn't a 17" monster that needed to run super hot. I wanted that "power" remotely.

tested with vmware, teamviewer, and others now trying splashtop 2 is giving me more but the graphics are slow 480p if i could make it to 720p it would be awesome,i have a intel i7 4770k haswel 4.2 OC, 8gb ram 1600, gtx 770 SC 120gb ssd 1TB hdd, to stream a shitty laptop with w7 i can play path of exile 480p no problems but 480p is not enjoyable.

On the contrary, http://store.steampowered.com/streaming/, Steam offers in home streaming to not only their shield but to pratically any windows based machine, I havent yet tried it on an android tablet but it works wonders on laptops.

Also any decent enough laptop will work, for best results get a dual core, 4GB of RAM. I also highly reccomend a wired connection, its far more stable, and faster (even on AC wireless, the technology is still new, doesnt quite hit theoretical speeds.
