Please help, I have an Asus Q200E laptop, it was running Windows 8, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 but didn't like it and it caused my laptop to start getting weird errors. I did a Refresh your PC and then suddenly it was having problems doing updates and wouldn't work. I have to recovery my PC but didn't make a usb recovery disk because I didn't know how at the time. If anyone has a recovery iso you can please send me I would appreciate it. I do have my product id and product key, I just am unable to recovery my PC because the only isos available are for retail.

I did try that already, I tried to use this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only

But it won't work because I have an OEM product key, not a retail key.

I downloaded a regular retail iso, and when I tried to do a usb recovery, it won't allow me to because I have an OEM product key. It wouldn't even let me do the recovery, it just said that my product key doesn't work with that recovery disc and then it would cancel everything.

I have the same problem with a HP computer. I called Microsoft Support and they redirected me to HP Support. Since you don't own a retail copy you can't install the retail version is what they told me. The recovery disc is your only option they said. Your best bet is to call Asus Support and talk with them. I'm my case Microsoft nor HP were of any help. Go figure.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with ASUS support. They're all indian and will continue to say "I understand your problem sir, I am sorry for any inconvenience you have experienced" and will go on to tell you that ASUS does not support any modification or upgrading of "their" products. Absolute crap

Seriously? Wow (about Asus).

You supposed to have your recovery partition. It is on your hard drive.

If you still want .iso- here are resources- I have no time to find the right link for ya, but it should be somewhere in these posts:

Here is proof that retail will not work. But how about you buy new key?

I LOVE how everyone is like "Just use your recovery partition" well WTF are we supposed to do if the hard drive fails? That recovery partition goes bye bye! So what, now we gotta fork over $100 for a retail OS? This is ludicrous.

Hey, was that ISO for laptops that have the Windows 8 cd key embedded into the BIOS? I am trying to just do a simple reformat, but Windows 8 makes this very difficult without a physical cd key on the laptop. I am trying to restore a HP Pavilion g7-2275dx and just need a Windows 8 OEM ISO to do it.

If you do not want to post the link here again, I understand. I am sure there is another way we can make contact, let me know.

Thank you for your time.

I agree....I have to replace a Failed HDD and I do have my Key. If I own the key (Product Code) already, why can't I just reinstall Windows for a Disk. My laptop is out of Warranty (by 3 days) and aside from paying MORE money for something I already own and re-install it myself. so my only option (or options) would be to acquire bootleg stuff, and I don't want to. I want to be legit. So, if someone can help and post (or PM me) a link for OEM owners to download Windows 8, that would be appreciated.

I am also looking for an OEM copy for a preinstalled ASUS laptop that the hard drive died.
I was able to extract my key from bios using a Linux LiveCD but it won't work with a retail Windows 8 ISO.
Anyone have any answers?
I'm about to image another ASUS machine (different model) I have in the shop and dump the image on the new HD and totally reset windows.

How did you extract the win8 key from bios via Linux?? This would fix everyones problems! Hope You will answer

Edit: For everyone, i found it:

hd /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM

The retail version does work. I have done it a couple of times. You just have to use a generic install key to install windows. Then use a key finder program to extract the key from the bios. Finally, change the key to your Bios key. That's should do it.

I've got the same problem here and it's a right pain in the backside. I've got a Fujitsu laptop here and the hard drive on that failed so couldn't re-install Win8 that way, plus the "recovery discs" that Fujitsu supplied with it are totally corrupt and get part way through Windows 8 recovery with a message that setup files are corrupt - so I found a website that offered a clean ISO of Win8 - installed it and it says it's not a valid CD key, used Windows 8 Product Key Viewer to see the product key and tried it on Windows 8 upgrade site - again "sorry this is an OEM key you can't install the retail copy" - called up Microsoft - they were about as useless as a chocolate teapot - "sorry you need to contact Fujitsu it's not our problem" - yeah it's your software that's malfunctioned!!!! and even tried Fujitsu - only answer I get from them is to use the recovery discs which were supplied - but they're corrupt!!! also managed to get another computer with BlindWrite to create an ISO of the fujitsu recovery media only to find it's too big to go on a DVD-R!!

Grrr.... really annoyed now - what is the point of this built in BIOS code to make it "easier" if you can't re-install Windows 8 with it when the hard drive fails. Seems it's just Microsoft's way of scamming another £100 for a lame OS that they're struggling to sell anyway. Just out of interest as well I wonder if Win 8 OEM key holders will also be locked out of the free Windows 10 upgrade too?
