I am looking into setting up a raid array, either RAID 1 or 10. But just curious if this is a good solution for home pcs and if anyone actually does it. I would keep a backup of my raid storage.

Currently using Windows 7. Any ideas?

Heres what I do. I have an SSD and a 1 TB HDD that have a bunch of stuff on them. I use a 3TB as a backup for both of them (not a RAID). This way the backup keeps up to date as long as a boot up from both drives and it isnt constantly writing to both drives (thus saving the 3TB HDD from unnecessary usage).

This might not work for you. If you need an instant backup of everything. I'd go with a RAID 1. RAID 10's are expensive and I'd usually recommend a RAID 5 instead.
