I'm planning on doing a build soon, and I noticed that 2400 RAM is about the same price as 1866 RAM. Is there any reason that I couldn't use G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) RAM with an AMD FX-8350 processor? If so, why not?

Solution
About the fastest Ram you'll find at CAS 9 would be 2133mhz. I don't think I've seen a reasonably priced 2400mhz set lower than CAS 11. Lower CAS latency's will give you better performance from your Ram.

For 2400 CL10 is the best (and they been around about a year and a half or more (GSkill Tridents, RJ Z, RJ X), problem is your on AMD and 2x4 of 2133 is about the best an 8350 can do (have seen plenty running 2400 stick ....sigh....but at 1333 - 1866..NOT at 2400) - the FX CPUs are rated up to 1866 at 1 stick per channel (2 total) and that was based on testing 4GB sticks - see AMDs guide here:

I don't see any reason to spend 154 dollars on Ram when the Cpu itself was only about 185 dollars. If for whatever reason he needed the performance that that set would give, he probably would have bought an I7 Cpu anyways. I'd just stick it out with 1866mhz CAS 9 ram myself unless 2133 was on sale that day.

I know this post is a year old, but does the RAM have to be CL9 to function with the 8350?
I mean, I had planned to buy 2400 ram, but the cas latency is 11.
That isn't going to cause issues is it?

I didn't think so, but this thread confused me a little bit.
Thank you.
