I need some help choosing the right Mobo. I haven't bought anything, and this is just a rough draft, so please, please, please feel free to throw up any suggestions. This rig needs to a gaming, quiet, completely SLI and OC compatible, space is not an issue (I'd rather have a larger form factor anyway.)

So far I have:

Either a i5-4670k //OR// i7-4770k (Keep in mind, OC, haswell)
Samsung 840 EVO 120 //OR// 250
Either Velociraptor or Black Cav for a 1tb HDD
EVGA OC GTX 780 (I want to keep my system completely SLI compatible in case I want to get another 780)
Corsair H100i (I know jack about cooling, but this has 4/5 eggs, and I don't want to fiddle with making my own cooling system, I'm terribly uncreative and clumsy with my hands)
That cooling being said, way too often do I see large coolers being hindered by massive 2400/9 DRAM, I'll look into LP 1866 sticks or something. 2 of 4 or 8 gigs each. I prefer Corsair or G.Skill.

After putting some parts through a wattage calc, I think I should look for some good 1000w Gold/Plat modular PSU, cooler master, corsair or the like

Some full-size case like Stormtrooper, HAF, Obsidian, or Phantom

All non-essentails aside, I'm looking for a gaming rig that will last me quite a couple of years. I want to cap my spending at 2,000 USD, but I'll budge for more if need be. 3.0 USBs out the waazooo, SATA 6.0s, etc.

I know I need a Mobo that's 1150 compatible for the 4th gen chip, and a Z87 for the OC. Not a micro, so the Sniper m5 is out of the question. That still leaves me with... 20 or so mobos to choose from, and I am way too new and stupid to choose one of them. I want a board that can take advantage of OC GPU, CPU, RAM - cables if that's going to be possible later on, whatever. Bells and whistles. I've been reading these forms and quite a few are vouching for the Asus VI Hero, what do you think and why? Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

For your build, you dont really need a black drive (it just has a longer warranty). Get a cheaper one that can store more (like a seagate 3TB for $110). You will be fine with the fast RAM. The h100i does not get in the way of ram like big air coolers because it just has a small heatsink with tubes leading to a radiator. You could get a 850w gold if you wanted to save a few bucks. It would work fine with an SLI config. I have a Phantom 630 and I think it would be perfect for what you need. Its huge and has a million features that make things very easy.

As for your motherboard. Here is an excellent ASUS MOBO (its similar to the Hero you were mentioning):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It supports crazy fast RAM. Obviously it supports your processor and it OC's great. It has a great BIOS for overclocking. It has a TON of SATA ports (8x 6.0GB/s Ports). Lots of USB 3.0 (x6 on the back alone). Supports SLI. Has great troubleshooting features (saved me a few times :)

Its a great board that you'll love and it looks really cool too.

I was gonna get the black drive just cause I like it - I've never heard of it failing on anyone. To tell you the truth, 1tb sounds crazy-massive to me.

And thanks for the h100i tip, I saw a few videos that looked like the ram was getting in the way of the tubes coming out the right side of the sink, but after you said that, i looked at other vids, and I guess it just depends on the size of the mobo (another reason I'd prefer a larger mobo). I'll go for the G.Skill Trident 2400/9 RAM, then.

Thanks for the Mobo suggestion, I looked it up and it seems legit!

Yep glad I could help. I guess the 1TB will work fine for you then. 1TB does seem like a lot, until you have it for a while :p . That aside im sure you'll be fine with it.
