i7 vs i5 (GTX 780)

I'm looking to build a high end PC to play BF4 on ultra settings at 60fps+, and all the other incoming new titles for pc. I wanted to know if i7 will make that big of an impact compared to i5 on the performance. I'm looking to spend as little money as possible, therefore I'm going more towards the i5 side, but if somone justifies why i7 would make a BIG difference, I'll probably go with the i7..

And do you have any other suggestions for the build? Like a different graphics card or a motherboard suggestion?

More about : gtx 780

I would just go with the i5 like you are thinking of, games use the GPU a lot more than the cpu.... most games do anyways. I play bf4 on a 8350 @4.3GHz with a 7950 OC'd and 16GB DDR3 and avg 50 fps

Sounds like what i was thinking.. i5 sounds good enough and will probably work well with my set up.. Do you think people who use i7 are a little overkill with their set up ?

BF4 single player does not benefit from Hyper Threading so the i5 should be just fine.

Here's lot's of multiplayer benchmarks at different resolutions and graphic qualities. I'll just post 1920x1080 @ ultra.

The following is the link to the page with the specific benchmark image. It appears Hyper Threading does not help with performance.

overkill isn't even the word, cheapest i7 in cananda I can find is $225 and that is only the 920 4 cores, the cheapest i7 6 core i can find is $505... I mean there are some people that need an i7 but gaming, not needed

I see no reason to go higher than a i5-3570k for your gaming build. I wouldnt especially if you have a budget. That being said I am building i7 - 3770k build with a MSI 780 Lightning and 32gb of 2400 cas 10 G.Skill Trident RAM. DO I NEED IT? NO. DO I WANT IT? YES!

So the question is does what you need out way what you want/ can afford.

Hahaha... Well but would I need anything more than a 770 to run the newer games at ultra at 60 fps?
