I cannot find a solid answer even within the site itself. I have just purchased a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd rasta with Mic 1 built in, and cannot get the mic to work. I have tried using them as a mic by plugging the 3.5mm jack into the mic slot instead of audio with no luck. I checked my drivers but again, I can't find anything not working or disabled. What can I do without spending MORE money to fix the issue?

That seems to be a TRRS(tip ring ring sleeve) plug, mostly used on mobile devices. Normal computers tend to use TRS(tip ring sleeve). Some newer laptops may be using TRRS as well.
