I am trying to use an external microphone for better sound and the computer doesn't seem to care what I plug in, it won't recognize it. Any ideas? i have the newest zenbook. UX something or other. Please help.

In your post was it a USB Microphone that wouldn't work?

If not and it was just a regular 3.5 mm jack-plug that you were trying to connect, then the solution I offered should work anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for USB audio devices but I would still want to know that all my I/O's are working properly.

For the sake of completeness, try my suggestion.

Right click on the volume icon.

Select 'Recording devices'.

Click on the microphone you want to hear and select properties.

Select the 'Listen' tab and check the 'Listen to this device' box.

Go to the Levels tab and boost the volume a little if necessary.

Still nothing?

Do the same with all the other devices in the list until you hear your microphone.

Select that device as default.

Un-check the 'Listen to this device' boxes in the other devices if you want and you should be done.

Did that help? :).

Thank you but the problem is that the zenbook doesn't recognize that anything is plugged in. I finally just got an adapter and plugged in the mic to the usb port and it worked.
