I just bought the r9 290 not too long ago.
I wasn't satisfied with drops below 60 in BF4 at ultra with my 770. So I opted to get a 290 and feel that i may have wasted my money.
I don't think i'm going 4k within the next 5-6 years, as it is way out of my budget.

I would love to go to 1600p once the monitors hit the 250-300 mark, as i'm perfectly happy with my 1080p monitor.

As for now though, i'm going to stay 1080p.
What are your guys thoughts?

no no card you can possibly buy would count as overkill for 1080p we are not there yet, plus if you want to keep playing on ultra your realy have a choice between r9 280x, r9 290, r9 290x or gtx 770, gtx 780, gtx 780ti, keep in mind future games will require a lot more gpu power so yeah

no way it is an overkill, I game at 1080p I can say the difference between my previous 7970ghz edition and my new r9-290 is colossal, so no way it is overkill and I am happy I got r9-290 to game at 1920x1080p also you might like to take a look at these benchmarks 1080p benchs

just compare results between 7970 and r9-290 at 1080p then you can see there is no overkill here, I love my r9-290 it is awesome, hope it might help. hell yeah ;)

Maybe go with SLI?

EDIT : I thought that you were only considering the r9 290, but you've already bought it.

it honestly would been a better option to grab a second 770 but now that you have a 290 its a little bit faster than the 770. either way Look for adding a second 290 to play in 1600p. there are not many single cards that can play 1600p at acceptable frame rates.

I bought my second 7970 just to get prepared for 1600p

r9-290 is much more powerful than gtx 770 so no, you will feel a bigger difference, r9-290 easily beats gtx 780, so don't worry, a word of advice always go with the strongest single gpu, sli and crossfire are stupid things usually, those micro stutters will drive anyone crazy

I'm not sure how it doesn't its benchmarks of the 290, 290x titan 7707 and 780 all in one even though bf4 was tested on single play my frame rates are almost exactly the same as if I were playing 64 players

the only thing is the benchmarks running the fans at 40% is bs since they were throttling.

as far as micro-stutter it all depends on the game some may some may not. may people have had good luck with xfire and sli. my old sli never gave me a problem nor was there micro-stutter whatsoever

still true to get the best single card you can

Single player actually seems to be more demanding graphically than the multiplayer.

@everyone else
Thank you. I've decided to keep it. The 100-150$ it cost seems worth it now. :)
