My system experiences slight framerate drops and stutters slightly when I play BF4, on Ultra and on High. I would just like to Identify which component is bottlenecking my system out of curiousity, maybe get an upgrade for it later.

System specs:
GPU - Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Vapor-X
CPU - Intel i7-2600 3.4GHz
PSU - 750W Acer brand (came with the computer)
RAM - 16GB (Not sure what type).

Thanks in advance for all your help!! :)

run a monitor program like hwnifo that will log info, and then play the game. Look at see, is the CPU maxed and the video card usage at like 50%? If so, then your CPU is the bottleneck. Is your temp getting too high, and your cpu being throttled? CPU voltage dropping? Monitoring those things can help.

None of these hardware is supposed to be bottlenecking BF4 assuming they are not faulty or you are giving us the full detail. I suppose you run single monitor 1900x1080 yes? Keep in mind BF4 optimization isn't good. They rushed the game in the market and there are tons of bugs to be fixed. Personally i have bad performance with a 4670k, 660 2gb and 16gb ram and every 10 minutes the game crashes.

there is no way a 3.4GHz i7 to be the problem.

that's why I said to monitor and log voltage, temps, etc to see if anything is coming up that shouldn't. Bad cooling/thermal paste could cause the temps to jet up during gaming and throttle the hell out of the cpu, and constant throttling up and down of the cpu could cause lag spikes as the cpu jumps down 500-1000mhz because of heat. Never said the model of cpu was the problem.

Hmm okay I'll check on that tomorrow. I was just surprised that Ultra seemed to have slight but infrequent stutters. I just bought my 280x so I thought something else was a problem. I'll over clock my GPU tomorrow and test my fps and stuff.

As i said before the most obvious reason is the game itself. Try other demanding games and look for yourself.

Three things. First, it isn't coded/optimized well for PCs. Second, if anything needs a boost I'd guess its your GPU. It's not far off the top end, but it's the only thing that can really be upgraded.

Third, and this is for Greg and gabbeh, watch the swear words. Don't make me edit posts again unless you like time away from the forum. Bad, poor, etc are good. $h!7 is a word you want to avoid using.
