I want to install Ubuntu on my friend laptop. All I seem to find is installation ON the usb key. I want to use the USB (as a cd/dvd) to install it on the laptop harddrive so he can enjoy Linux without MY usb key :D

I thought it would be easy as put iso on the USB and tell PC start with USB priority.
error disc
press anything to retry.

do I need to pre-install it on the key? or did I need to format it 32FAT?

Thx!

Solution
Just dropping the ISO in the USB Key won't do.. you need to pre-install the OS in the USB Key with the help of the appropriate software... it should format it in FAT32 during the pre-install.

See if this helps.

I don't understand all the technical terms like "bootable". I'm used to French. I know it's pretty simple, I've done many windows and mac.

"Acquire the correct Ubuntu installation files ('the ISO')
Put Ubuntu onto your USB flash drive
Configure your computer to boot from USB flash drive and boot from it
Try Ubuntu or install it to your hard drive."

quoted from that link.

Iso is on fresh USB, PC start on USB, error.
