I have a century link wireless router that my laptop has access through. I also have a desktop computer in another room away from the router that I need to hook up to the inet. Is there any way to connect the desktop to my laptop and gain access to the inet when I need to or do I have to run a long ethernet cord to plug into the router?

Either the cord or buy a WiFi card for the desktop (depending on how far away it is from the router you may need to use a WiFi extender to get a good signal), either of those are much better than sharing the laptop's connection.
