What can I use as a tuner for a tunerless dvd recorder? I split the cable coming in from the wall. I ran one to my dvr cable box and tv but need something that I can use for a tuner to connect from the splitter and then to my tunerless dvd recorder so I can record some basic cable channels without a cable box to discs. Time Warner does not allow any signal through their tuner boxes to externally record. That's why I'm trying to find something to make this work. Already tried to hook up one of those digital to analog converter boxes to use as a tuner but it didn't work

If your cable box has an Coax RF output then you could use an old VCR as a tuner. The VCR part does not have to work. You just tune the VCR to the correct channel (3 or 4 usually) and use the av outs from the VCR to feed the DVD recorder.
